Another Russian Give Away!!
After yet another marketing drive for yet another red, white, and blue fountain pen called The Benjamin Franklin Christopher Robin All-American Freedom! Or some such other load of old crap that just doesn’t exist under the current fascist regime, we have an alternative pen that tells it like it is… and what’s even better, in true #45 style, it’s an alternative pen, i.e., it’s a lie, it doesn’t actually exist.
You can only get it in an F for Failure of Humanity, Fake Gold, or Fascist nib size. It won’t write anything but outright lies, and comes with a free bottle of ink, based on a color that the current regime knows only too well.
And I love the clip—modeled after the kind of man that likes a stupidly long tie, to cover all those embarrassingly stretched shirt buttons. Or maybe to tie-up the next victim of sexual harassment? You be the judge… because he owns the US Supreme Court.
But I’d be careful of that clip if I were you! If you tuck that pen in your pants, you never know what it might grab. Be like a true All-American Hero, and take no chances.
The clip band is tastefully inscribed in Concentration Camp Blood Red to match the free ink, and the border-crossing death toll the US Republican Party refuses to acknowledge; and reads Fascist 2016-2020. Let’s all hope that’s only as long as it lasts.
To earn the name The Death of Democracy, the Russian government has pledged to give away as many of these pens as it takes to buy another fake victory for the current incumbent of the White House. The GOP have also promised to handout one of these pens each, to the first 2 million people who turn up at their local Immigration and Customs Enforcement office, whether you’re a US citizen or not. Good luck with that.
Wonder Woman and Superman had better stay at home, rumor has it that they could be immigrants.

That will be quite enough. The fountain pen community gets along quite well without involving politics and religion. I strongly recommend that you do the same.

Thanks for the advice James, but no, I don’t think I’ll be taking it.
I’ve never declared myself to be part of any community. And the current disgrace in the White House transcends politics and is simply about what is humane and decent, against what is racist, corrupt, and downright criminal. To stand silent in the face of the current US regime, only 15 minutes down the highway from my home, is to be complicit. And if, at worst, I close a ridiculous little stationery blog because I choose to speak out against a corrupt, racist, serial sex-offender occupying the highest office in US politics, well then, I’ll take that with a smile, and open another blog some place else.
If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.

I’ve been thinking about how the lack of conversation in regular life about racism, corruption, and the utterly inhumane treatment of human beings at the border is part of the silence that will keep all of this happening.

In 1936, at what became known as the Battle of Cable Street, my great uncle, and many others fought the British Union of Fascists (BUF) to a standstill, so that they could not pass through the East End of London. The BUF leader, Oswald Mosley, was later imprisoned as an enemy of the state. A few short years later, and British fascists like Nigel Farage are winning votes with Mosley’s old slogan “Britain First”. And it’s no secret that Farage has taken political advice from people like Steve Bannon.
This isn’t about politics, with a child a month dying in US border control concentration camps, it is not overly dramatic to say that it’s about true wickedness, and simple humanity.

I so totally agree. I just hope the Democrats can get it together enough to defeat him in 2020. I’m very afraid for our country.

I am afraid for the US, and for it’s neighbors and allies. I’ve said it before, I grew up loving what I thought America stood for… Samuel Clemens, Harper Lee, Martin Luther King Jr.
I read Captain America comics as a kid (still do), and have been moved by some of the speeches they wrote for him…

Hey, Paul – sorry for the late follow up; I was cleaning out my email and found your reply. That IS a great speech. I grew up like you did, believing in the patriotic principals I’d been taught. I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem like they teach those things anymore. Maybe that’s why so many people don’t even seem to notice that the idiot in the White House (if we don’t stop him) has a real chance at starting the process that overthrows our democracy. Bottom line is that if we want to stop him and those others who hate democracy, WE have to stop it. I can’t understand people who don’t think he’s lying all the time. I mean, regardless of politics, Democrat or Republican, Americans should know how to spot such obvious lies. I just don’t get it. And now he’s calling on other countries to step in and corrupt our voting process, just like before. He’s a traitor. Why can’t people see that? Do they think that just because he’s doing it out in the open, it’s OK?

It’s both immeasurably sad, and truly frightening isn’t it? Also, I think it’s very difficult for anybody, especially those of the mindset that says, if it’s in the best interests of the country, then the President is entitled to do it, to admit that they, or the government, have been wrong. And I have heard that argument, and seen it divide friends and family… yet another immeasurably sad aspect. I worry that even if US citizens remove him from office–even if that means just voting in numbers too great to falsify–what that might mean in terms of an equally evil and inept President Pence, or possibly civil unrest and violence. I fear that there may well be further trouble ahead before things improve.
